SECTION 6
ENGLISH PROJECT
ENGLAND
It takes its name from the Angles, a Germanic tribe
who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries. England
became a unified state in the 10th century and has had a significant cultural
and legal impact on the wider world since the Age of Discovery, which began
during the 15th century.
GEOGRAPHY FEATURES
Mostly low hills and plains, especially in the south, Midlands and east. Upland or mountainous terrain prevails
in the north and parts of the west.
TRADITIONS
Many
holidays in England, such as Christmas, are celebrated throughout the world, is
an opportunity for singing and feasting. Remembrance Day (November 11) honours
British soldiers who died in World War I. Also Guy Fawkes Night
(November 5) commemorates a
Roman Catholic conspiracy to
blow up the Houses of Parliament in
1605, and Saint George’s Day
(April 23) honours England’s patron saint.
UNITED STATES
HISTORY
Began with the arrival of the
first people in the Americas around 15,000 BC.
Numerous indigenous cultures formed. After European colonization of North
America began in the late 15th century.
GEOGRAPHY FEATURES
The eastern regions consist of hills and low mountains, while the central
interior is a vast plain. The west has high rugged mountain
ranges. Alaska also features rugged mountains as well as river valleys.
TRADITIONS
Traditions such as fireworks
on the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving meals with family and friends, and the
singing of the national anthem before sporting events are
deeply ingrained in American society.
CANADA
HISTORY
It is marked by Indigenous
peoples' presence for thousands of years before European exploration.
European exploration began in the late 15th century, with John Cabot's arrival
in 1497. France and Britain established colonies in the 16th and 17th
centuries, leading to conflicts like the Seven Years' War.
GEOGRAPHY FEATURES
It has a
varied landscape, with majestic mountains, rolling plains, forested valleys,
and beautiful blue rivers and lakes. The Canadian Shield, a
hilly region of lakes and swamps, stretches across northern. It has some of the
oldest rocks on Earth. In Canada's far north lies the frozen Arctic.
TRADITIONS
National Indigenous
Peoples Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, Canadian Multiculturalism Day, Canada Day
and National Acadian Day are opportunities to celebrate
our ethnic, linguistic, ethnocultural and regional diversity, which helps make
Canada a truly inclusive and outward-looking country.
